Today I lay my daughter down for her morning nap just like any other ordinary day.  As I go to walk away to start crossing off the millions of things that are on my to do list, i’m stopped dead in my tracks.  Was it the way the lighting in our living room was hitting her face? Maybe it was the pink shirt she was wearing because I just love the color pink on her.  Was it the little pig tails that she’s finally starting to let me put her hair into? I’m not even quite sure what it was but I do know all of the thoughts and emotions that were running through my head.  I just had to grab my camera and capture her right in this moment.  I was reminded the reason why I bought my camera in the first place.

She’s not a tiny little baby anymore.  She will be two at the end of October! I can’t even wrap my head around that. I feel like I just brought her into this world yesterday.   This makes my eyes water for two reasons.  One: of course, she’s not so little anymore.  She tests me now. Everyday and multiple times each day.  Her favorite words are “No” and “Why” and she says these quite often.  She’s two going on thirteen, I swear.  It can be both be both frustrating and exhausting.  Exhausting both physically and mentally!  I’d be lying if I said there were never times where  I’m so frustrated or exhausted that I want to cry. Motherhood is hard and let’s be honest, every mother has to agree with that! Look at that little face, though.  The way she sleeps with her mouth open, which my husband happily reminds me that I do the same.  I take these photos because I want to be able to look back and remember this very moment.  To remember all that I was feeling. I want to remember her little ears and her button nose.  How peaceful she looks while she asleep.  To remember her tiny feet, her piggy toes, and that scrape on the back of her elbow.

The second reason these bring tears to my eyes is because i’m so excited for her.  Yes, she’s two.. but she’s only two! She has so many years ahead of her.  I can’t wait to continue watching her grow.  She can now tell me where all of her features are.  Her eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, tongue, ears, hands, fingers, feet, toes, and belly button. She even shows Alex and I where ours are! She can count to three, although most of the time she skips over the number one completely. She can put her shoes on by herself and she even knows where we keep them.  She’s starting to tell us things such as what she wants or doesn’t want. She let’s us know what she’s thinking and how she’s feeling- even if that’s through a tantrum.  Watching your child grow and develop is the most amazing thing ever and i’m so excited to see who she becomes because I just know she’s going to become someone extra special.
